Located on the west coast of La Palma, Puerto Naos is a small resort offering an ideal base for a relaxing holiday. Built beneath volcanic cliffs this traditional fishing village offers a good choice of holiday accommodation, shops, bars and restaurants.

The main attraction of the resort is the 500m long black sandy beach lined with palm trees which is the longest stretch of beach on La Palma and is ideal for sunbathing. Just along the coast is Playa de las Monjas, the only naturist beach on the island.

Popular activities in the resort such as scuba diving, hiking, paragliding, horse riding and boat tours are all readily available.

Puerto Naos is situated 35 km from the airport with a transfer time of approx 45 minutes.

Insider's View

La Palma Insider The beach itself is black sand, like all the others on La Palma, with fresh water showers and a sprinkling of parasols made of palm leaves.

Puerto Naos is the main tourist development in the west of La Palma, and it's mostly a beach destination.

The Hotel Sol is at the southern extremity of the main beach, and the promenade has all the amenities: bars, restaurants shops and a cyber café. My friends tend to congregate at Laly's bar, where, so they tell me, the cocktails and tapas are good. (I've only had coffee myself.) They also swear by Franconia's restaurant, which uses really good ingredients and has lowish prices.

Kids tend to like Planet Fun which is an amusement arcade and cybercafe as well as a bar, or Las Palmeras, by the beach. The beach itself is black sand, like all the others on La Palma, with fresh water showers and a sprinkling of parasols made of palm leaves. These are very nice if you get one, but there aren't enough to go around at peak times.

La Bombilla (also known as Playa Nueva) lies 1 km north of Puerto Naos. It has a lovely clean beach with big waves, so it's very popular with surfers. However, currently there are no shops or toilets or bars, not even a kiosk, and no shade provided.

At the moment, they're building a promenade, so there may be something soon. And no, the building work doesn't affect the beach itself.

Charco Verde, 3 km south of Puerto Naos, is a great favourite with the locals now that it's not a nudist beach any more. You have a short walk from the car park, and when you get there, you'll find a kiosk and parasols made out of palm leaves. It's great for paddling, and for swimming in summer, but in winter sometimes the waves are too rough for swimming, since there are big rocks at the edges of the beach.
